Delivering Olde English Bulldogges Puppies is stressful
At 30 days gestation we have the vet do an ultra sound to confirm pregnancy. At 55 days gestation another ultra sound is done to check the Olde English Bulldogges puppies and determine the most accurate due date. Gestation is 63 days but by measuring the diameter of the puppy skulls at 55 days is the best indicator. Also at the 55 day mark the female dog’s temperature is taken 3 times daily by the breeder. When the temperature falls below 99 she is with in 24 hours of delivering pups. We always do a csection for delivery. It is the safest way for the mother to deliver the pups. A progesterone test is done to determine if the female dog has started labor. A temperature drop is an indicator but not always accurate. The progesterone test is the most accurate way to determine if the female is in labor and if it is safe to deliver pups. A cesection delivery has an average cost of $1200. Finally the Olde English bulldogges puppies must have their tails docked and dew claws removed at 2-5 days of age. From conception to 2 days of age I have about $2500 invested in each and every litter.
New born puppy care is strenuous. Olde English bulldogges puppies have to be monitored around the clock for 5 to 7 days. The mother dogs are often not very agile and will lay on a puppy unknowingly. The puppy will be deprived of oxygen and die. If pups get too far away from the mother they will get chilled and die. They have no control of their body heat. Olde English bulldogges puppies are very fragile in their first week of life. My advice to those wanting to breed their female dog 1 time to get a puppy is “let the breeders take the entire risk just buy another puppy or two”. My advice to the rookie; you have to have a lot of capitol on hand, you need to research the bloodlines of your foundation dogs thoroughly, read everything you can get your hands on regarding bulldog breeding, interview as many breeders as you can, and make sure your vet is a reproduction specialist and has experience working with breeders.
